In a conventional mixer the tool drags the material around the vessel. The batch moves, but it moves together. Agglomerates survive. Fines escape the shear zone.
In an Eirich mixer the pan turns one way, the rotor turns the other. Material is forced through the rotor at every revolution. Shear is concentrated, energy is uniform, and the same trajectories repeat from 5 litres to 12,000 litres.
